Artist-led research at Fabrique-mondes

Fabrique-mondes is an artist-led research group that explores hybrid forms of experimental nonfiction & world-building in the cinematic arts.

The group supports research-creation in a lab setting that promotes critical and creative thinking. We advance artistic research, collaborative methodologies, and experimental forms of cinematic production. Fabrique-mondes was born out of a desire to build collective synergy between cine-artists developing experimental nonfiction practices within the Concordia community and beyond.

Fabrique-mondes embraces a vision of the cinematic arts as an interdisciplinary field that combines contemporary art discourses & histories. We explore image and sound poetics in their inherent exegetical ambiguity, and investigate audiovisual methods for expressing living worlds. Our artist-researchers question the relation of theory & practice, form & content, which we understand as indivisibly linked.

How does artistic research manifest in and through experimental nonfiction?
What new ways of knowing are generated through artistic nonfiction practices?
How do aesthetic forms shape our experience & understanding of the world?

We engage these questions in ongoing research projects and outreach initiatives.
